Civil disobedience (in general) is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, or commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Civil disobedience is commonly, though not always, defined as being nonviolent resistance.
It is one form of civil resistance. The phenomenon of civil resistance is often associated with the advancement of democracy.
Civil disobedience is one of the many ways people have rebelled against what they deem to be unfair laws. One of its earliest massive implementations was brought about by Egyptians against the British occupation in the 1919 revolution. It has been used in many nonviolent resistance movements in India (Ghandi’s campaigns for independence from the British Empire), in Czekoslovakia’s Velvet Revolution and in East Germany to oust their communist governments, in South Africa in the fight against apartheid, in the American civil rights Movement, in the Singing revolution to bring independence to the Baltic countries from the Soviet Union, recently with the 2003 Rose Revolution in Georgia and the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine, are among other various movements worldwide.
Civil disobedience In Ethiopia (referring to the above paragraph) The current government of Ethiopia is accusing its opponent parties and diasporas as if they are preparing to dismantle the government using the mentioned revolutions of Orange, Rose, & Velvet fabricating its newly released film of Color revolution/Yeqelem abiyot. Bloggers of Zone Nine blog and journalists are accused of inciting such color revolution and joined cells of prisoners of consciences jailed in “Zone 1-8” in Ethiopia.
But none of the bloggers, and other prisoners could not be in jail for writing and criticizing the dictatorial government of Ethiopia because the government violets its Article of the freedom of speech.
Not only this time , also aftermath of the famous 2005 national election the main opposition partyKinjit/CUD leaders were accused “for turning” demonstration to Orange revolution of Ukraine and hence the government started to burst the revolution before it is ripped/ or advised by CUD leaders. Andinet and Semayawi parties upon staging successful demonstration recently in Ethiopia ,EPRDF labeled them terrorists to implement such color Abyots “Sponsored” by Successors of CUD diasporas such as Ginbot 7.
Actually the public demonstrations, one remedy for public disobedience, emerged in a new fashion in Ethiopia are:-
1. Totally peaceful, and should get sound response from the government rather than labelling them another way. Otherwise we are forced to
2. Turn the normal one hour demonstrations into long day(s) demonstrations until there comes change of government like the rioters in Egypt gathered in Tahrir square for a week until ousted Mubarek in 2011 and Morsi in 2013,
Like in Egypt the major slogan of the demonstrators in Tunisia, Libya, Algeria ,Sudan and also other Arab world has been Ash-sha`b yurid isqat an-nizam (“the people want to bring down the regime”).Numerous factors have led to the protests, including issues such as dictatorhip /absolute monarchy , human rights violations, political corruption ,lack of freedom of opposition, economic decline, unemployment, extreme poverty, and a number of demographic structural factors, such as a large percentage of educated but dissatisfied youth within the population.
We Ethiopians have such many reasons to demand change of government. What we demand is democracy, freedom and justice! Otherwise It is possible to implement Arab Spring revolution in Ethiopia as Eskinder Nega said to be “quoted”. A teacher called Yenesew Gebre in South Ethiopia burned himself and entered to a public hall meeting to convey this message in 2011 like the self-immolation of Tunisian Mohamed Bouazizi catalyzed the Arab Spring revolution.
How many persons should be burned down, killed, imprisoned to change the Tigray liberation Front /TPLF-EPRDF dictatorial government in Ethiopia??We should stand united to overthrow this bandit/Weyane before disintegrating our country by large.
The Barbaric monarchs should stop oppressing and repent before the time come for the citizens to revenge them.
The victim citizens can consider some easy forms of civil disobedience, such as boycots from buying Tplf/government institutions known as EFORT, refusals to pay taxes and refusal to buy bonds for the Nile Dam , draft dodging, distributed denial-of-service attacks, and sit-ins, as their strategies with the peaceful demonstrations.
As there are more than 200 types of civil resistance, this time I summarize the civil disobedient topic focusing on the “Sit in form” of disobedience. A sit-in or sit-down is a form of direct action that involves one or more people occupying an area for a protest, often to promote political, social, or economic change.it can be sitting in silent in a prohibited place or unlike Rallies/Marchs which is allowed for a short period of time Sit in disobedience may be in a public place or home, in the mask of people’s right to be in a particular place. Typical events of this kind is the Egyptians protests in Tahrir square and the Ukrainians Sit downs in the Independent Square in a series of day and night until their presidents got overthrown.
Therefore let the Ethiopians Sit- in the squares until abolish Weyane/EPRDF and continue day – night their peaceful demonstrations until they got response.
The Sit-in forms mentioned above are restricted only in Ethiopia, however, anyone who want to see democratic Ethiopia in the future should also share the responsibility to promote Sit in Disobediences using any means such as social Medias. Anyone who lived out of Ethiopia shall transmit to the Ethiopians living in the country the mentioned forms of Civil disobedience including the techniques of Arab Spring as they use Facebook and Tweeter to organize their revolution.
In Addition to using social Medias Electronic civil disobedience is another tool which include web site defacements, redirects, denial-of-service attacks, information theft and data leaks, illegal web site parodies, virtual sit-ins, and virtual sabotage. It is distinct from other kinds of hacktivism in that the perpetrator openly reveals his identity. The Ethiopian government is updating itself with these high tech cyber skills and its Fin fisher and Fin spy softwares purchased from Europe are spying Ethiopians in diaspora. So ready the “anti-virus” before the government spyware attacks you and condemn internet censorships. It is better to update with today’s revolution skills from the bulky classifications of civil resistance.
